U.S. looking to close the name dispute
Assistant Secretary of State for Europe, Philip Gordon, Skopje asked to end the problem of name, and the meeting with Crvenkovski term as mentioned in November, when to hold NATO summit
Strongly supports the resolution of the name issue with Greece, which lasts too long. The question of the name is crucial for the otkochuvanje Atlantic integration of Macedonia and it should work constructively to find solution with Greece. When that happens, the U.S. will be strong supporters of the agreement will be achieved.
Yesterday in Skopje said Assistant Secretary of State for Europe, Philip Gordon. Deputy head of U.S. diplomacy in the country, Hillary Clinton came with the message that the U.S. is interested as soon as possible to close the name dispute, and Macedonia to join NATO. Gordon yesterday met with the head of state, George Ivanov, DUI leader Ali Ahmeti and President of SDSM, Branko Crvenkovski. Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski, who was prevented to land in Skopje due to volcanic dust from Iceland, Gordon was supposed to meet vcheravecher in Zagreb.
Crvenkovski said after the meeting that the United States believe that it is high time to resolve name dispute and that the State Department expected convergence of views between Athens and Skopje and the final solution before the NATO summit in early November, for the period until June to address short the problem.
Ivanov meeting with Deputy Clinton expressed views on the Macedonian name dispute with Greece and stressed that Macedonia is ready for mutually acceptable solution within the Charter, resolutions of the United Nations and international law.
After meeting with Ahmeti, said Gordon thanked him for the constructive role played by the country in promoting inter-ethnic relations.
